This blog is to talk about our weaver outworld, its features, why we made it this way and also instructions of how to assemble

What are ‘weaver ants’?

Weaver ants are arboreal ants who nest off of the floor, generally in trees/bark and make their nests out of silk which the larvae produce! Typically found in rainforests, so like high humidity. They are fascinating ants to observe.

Our outworld

The AFS Weaver Outworld is designed specifically to enable you to boost the humidity with the hydration system of the plaster base, as well as offering multiple add ons which use magnets, allowing you to customise your set up however you want! With this, you have the creative freedom to make your outworld unique to anyone else’s!

The add-ons we have so far are:

  • Humidity/temperature sensor
  • Single test tube holder
  • Triple test tube holder
  • Corner table
  • Side table
  • Rope anchor
  • Jelly pot holder
  • Aspen
  • Rope
  • Wicker balls

The Weaver outworld includes:

  • Plastered base
  • 2 x side panels
  • 1 x rear panel
  • 1x front panel (with logo)
  • Top of outworld (3 pieces)

Nuts and screws

  • 69 x 8mm hex screws
  • 4 x nuts for lid

  • 2 x Block A corner connectors
  • 2 x Block B corner connectors
  • 16 x Block C middle connectors

Other items

  • 2 x sets of magnets/table fixings for each side
  • 1 x handle for lid
  • 2 x 5cm tubes
  • Allen Key

Instructions of how to assemble:
  1. Remove all protective covers.
  2. On the side panels, screw in your magnet/table fixings. It is important to do this first!
  3. Start from the base and work your way up and make sure to screw in all connections you can along the way to make this easier.
  4. Start from the front panel, making sure the logo is on the outside and at the bottom left. Fix the bottom 3 screws to the base using the Allen key.
  5. For stability, now fix one of the side panels tot he base with the 3 fixings at the base. Make sure to have the magnet connector on the outside and the table on the inside!
  6. Next, use the Block C connectors to attach the two panels together.
  7. Now you have two panels connected, it is best to attach all the connecting blocks to the open screw holes, this will save you struggle later once all panels are connected.
  8. Next, connect the two other panels as you have done the others, making sure to add the connecting blocks to every hole as you go along.
  9. Once you have all 4 panels securely connected, attach the top panel.
  10. Now assemble the lid consisting of two acrylic pieces, do this by inserting a screw from the top, then by hand, fastening the nut to the end of the screw. Do this for all 4 corners.
  11. Lastly, attach the handle for your lid by inserting the screw from the underside, up into the handle.
  12. If you see any gaps in the acrylic, tighten the screw very small amounts at a time until the gap is closed. Try not to over tighten the screws when doing this though.
